In the early 70’s, Frank Rives, Sr. started his direct mail advertising company Marriage Mail Advertising. As is alluded to in the name, Marriage Mail facilitated the combining of many direct mail advertisers as one so as to reduce postage costs. By doing this, large companies were able to mail their advertising pieces more often and over larger demographics. Marriage Mail catered to larger, national businesses with robust marketing budgets. These clients included such names as Ole’s Home Centers, Thrifty Drug Stores, Market Basket, TG&Y,
White Front, to name a few. In 1981, Frank Rives sold Marriage Mail Advertising to ADVO Mailing Systems, Inc. which is now known simply as ADVO to pursue other business ventures. After a few years in the world of retail, he saw the potential for his budget pooling concept for the small, locally based businesses within his own hometown community and began Best Buys Guides (then called Coastal Review).
Since that day, the appearance of the publication has taken on several looks, each taking advantage of the technology of the day. Some 30 years later, the full color glossy “mini Magazine” has taken shape. Taking advantage of the printing capabilities now available and utilizing the most advanced computer generated graphics, the magazine brings the high quality image demanded by business owners and managers to the consumer each and every month. Best Buys Guides remains a family owned company catering to South Bay businesses of all types. With more than 90% of its clients, themselves family owned & operated, the relationships created are, many times, more personal and long lasting.
